Coaches will need to complete the following to become certified. You are not allowed to begin coaching until all of these items are completed/current for the season.
1. Register as a AYSO Volunteer (yearly)
2. Complete and clear an online AYSO background check through Sterling Volunteer (yearly) - League pays the $25 fee.
3. Complete and clear an in-person live scan finger print (one time) - League pays the $25 fee. Usually done at the postal annex in Rancho San Diego. Takes 5-10 minutes.
4. Complete the AYSOU Safe Haven Online Training (one time)
5. Complete the AYSOU CDC Concussion Awareness Training (one time)
6. Complete the AYSOU Sudden Cardiac Arrest Online Awareness Training (one time)
7. Complete the AYSOU Coaching Course for the division you are coaching. This covers the basics for coaching your division.
For 6U and 8U this is an online only course that can take a couple of hours to complete.
For 10U, 12U, and 14U, there is an online portion and an in-person class that is usually 2-3 hours on a Saturday morning and covers topics such as specific rules, running effective practices, and game management.
***For new coaches, I am happy to do an in-person clinic on running a successful practice/game - how to work with the kids, how to structure a practice, drills to run, age appropriate items to work on, and ways to be successful. In the mean time, check out the coaches tab and click on your division to see what resources we have available to get you started!
