U6 and U8 parents - Every week, we need to strip(paint) the lines for the U6 and U8 grass fields once they are mowed. We are also responsible for cleaning the bathrooms, emptying trash cans, and general clean up around the snack bar. The U8 and U6 teams will be sharing these duties with one team taking responsibility each week. A schedule will be released at the start of the season with each teams assigned week(s). Typically it takes about 20 minutes to strip each field and 20 minutes to clean and restock the bathrooms. All materials needed will be located in the storage boxes by the fields or in the men’s bathroom supply cabinet.
You can also help your players coach when you are the first game by assembling pop-up goals and setting our corner flags and when you have the last game of the day, taking them down and putting them away in the storage boxes. (typically 10 minutes)
U10, U12, and U14 parents - We may need help repainting the U10 and U12 field lines if we are required to continue using the chalk paint as they fade. This is typically done at the beginning and maybe once again throughout the season depending on weather and use. I can usually do one of these fields in 90-120 minutes by myself.
You can also help your players coach when you are the first game by setting out the corner flags and ensuring the correct goal is in place for the game. Parents may have to help shuffle goals before/after games based on the schedule. When you have the last game of the day, ensure corner flags are put away in the storage boxes and the U10 goals are locked up correctly.
Items we occasionally need help with
U8 field - This field can use some maintenance help in May/June. We have developed some pot holes and divots we need to fill. I would love to plan a day to get a truck load of sand delivered, have volunteers wheelbarrow sand out to the divots and around the field to help distribute it, then go around with the golf carts and a drag to level out the field. After that, we can spread fertilizer and fresh grass seed to help have the field ready for practices in August. Hoping this is a half day commitment with enough people.
Jamul Field Prep Day - In August, we play to do a prep day to get the facility ready for Fall! We usually ask for a few hours saturday morning to go around the facility, pick up trash, weedwack weeds and light brush, lay out the U6 and U8 field lines and paint them, clean the bathrooms, blow off/pressure wash sidewalks and make sure the facility is looking great for opening day!
Oak Grove Goal Nets - Occasionally, we need help replacing the nets over at Oak Grove for our goals. Usually works best with 2 people to get the net laid out correctly then install all of the hold down anchors to the tracks. Usually can be done in 1-2 hours. Can be done during a team practice time.
Emergency lawn mowing - Jamul School system is responsible for mowing the grass fields for us during the soccer season. Sometimes their maintenance team gets backed up and can not get the fields mowed in time. It would be nice to have an on-call person for Thursday or Friday evening that could quickly mow the fields if needed. (This rarely happens but it’s nice having a dedicated person we can call if needed). Baseball has their equipment they are willing to share with us at the field and will train someone on how to use.
